US opposes convening UN Security Council meeting on anti-Iran sanctions

The United States opposed the convening of an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, initiated by Russia due to the US appeal to restore sanctions against Iran. This was announced by the First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Dmitry Polyansky on August 20 on his page on the social network Twitter. Having unreasonably stated that they launched a mechanism for the return of sanctions, our American colleagues objected to holding a meeting of the Security Council to discuss the situation around the implementation of Resolution 2231, Polyansky wrote. According to the news agency, Russia demanded an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on August 21 due to the US appeal to impose sanctions against Iran.
