People broke the neck: as a German submarine sank Arandora
July 2, 1940 the German submarine U-47 sank the British liner Arandora transporting interned citizens of Germany and Italy to Canada for imprisonment in the camp. Killed 805 people, including the ship's captain Edgar Moulton. Among the survivors was the athletics coach of Russian descent Franz Stampfl, later famous as the coach of Olympians and developer of innovative techniques.
