Ukraine and Georgia join EU sanctions against Syria
Ukraine joined the decision of the European Union to extend anti-Syrian sanctions until June 1, 2021, according to the declaration of the EU High Representative, published on June 25 on the official website of the European Union. The EU Council resumed existing restrictive measures for the next 12 months, until June 1, 2021, and supplemented the list of persons and institutions to which restrictive measures apply, as set out in Annex 1 to the EU Decision, 2013/255/CFSP the report said. The decision was joined by candidate countries for accession to the EU, countries participating in the free trade zone with the EU, as well as members of the European economic space Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The sanctions prohibit the supply of weapons to Syria, the implementation of joint infrastructure projects, the trade in oil and petroleum products, and also impose restrictions on a number of Syrian officials, including President Bashar al-Assad. In total, the EU sanctions list includes 179 individuals, 53 Syrian companies, as well as the country's commercial bank. According to the news agency, earlier the speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Baker Kalibaf, said that the sanctions against Syria were caused by the failures of the enemies of Iran and Syria in the military sphere.
