Ex-head of the Kirovograd region of Ukraine suspected of receiving a bribe
Employees of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) detained the former head of the administration of the Kirovograd region, along with one of the employees of the administration. This was reported on June 25 in the press service of the department. Officials found a bag in which there were 250 thousand hryvnias or more than $9 thousand. According to investigators, the suspects could receive part of the bribe, the total amount of which was 1.8 million hryvnias or over $67 thousand. The suspects could demand this money from the head of one of the state authorities in the region for non-interference in his activities. The message does not name the names of the defendants, but the journalists of the Ukrainian Truth newspaper claim that we are talking about the former head of the Kirovograd region, Andrei Balon, who was fired on June 25 by decision of the Ukrainian government. According to the news agency, earlier the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine appointed a preventive measure in the form of a personal obligation to the former Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan. He is suspected of damaging the state budget in the amount of more than 30 million hryvnias or more than $1 million.
